Know Your Credit Score

1. What is a CIBIL and why it's important?
Credit Information Bureau (India) Limited is the first credit information agency in India, which was founded in August 2000. It started providing the credit information and maintaining the payment records of the individuals since then.

2. What is CIBIL score?
CIBIL score is nothing but the numeric representation of the credit history of an individual. This score is required for the evaluation and the approval process in the loan applications. For mitigating the loss and lending money to the consumers, the financial institutions and banks highly depend on the CIBIL score for evaluating the potential risks. So, CIBIL score plays a great role in the Indian financial system in which the consumers can settle their credit quicker and the loan providers can manage their business in a proper way.

3. How does CIBIL score affect home loan?
CIBIL scores are an indispensable part of getting a home loan sanctioned. Lenders need to know that you are a credit worthy applicant to whom they can afford to lend to. Nothing proves to be more reliable (at an initial stage) than a good CIBIL score. An unsatisfactory CIBIL score always weakens your chances of getting the home loan without any hassles. Therefore, if you want to take a home loan, you cannot afford to ignore the Credit Information Bureau of India Limited (CIBIL) score. CIBIL score gives lenders a snapshot of your credit health and history, and your willingness and ability to repay debts on time. Therefore if your CIBIL score is high, the odds of getting a home loan is strong, if other factors work in your favor too. But if your CIBIL score is low, your other home loan eligibility norms must be adequate enough for the lender to grant you the home loan amount you need.

4. How CIBIL score is it calculated?
CIBIL scores are determined based on several facts and details like the borrower's payment history, number and types of loan accounts, outstanding and opening loan amounts, credit enquiries and guarantors on the loan, if any.

5. What is a Good CIBIL Score?
The CIBIL TransUnion score ranges between 300 and 900. A CIBIL score of over 750 is generally considered good by lenders but few lenders may have higher limits. Banks and financial institutions have their own benchmarks that counts as a good CIBIL score.
